Creepy holiday songs - gender

I don't agree with all of her choices but I chose the final one myself as soon as I saw the title - watch this YouTube clip from 5:15 to see for yourself. I feel a chill down my spine but not because it's cold outside!

  1. I understand where she is coming from although I think she's looking into it too much as not many people actually pay that much attention to these Christmas songs nor do they start to think that the writes of these songs write them intentionally to segregate genders nor do people take offence to the words/stereotype's in the lyrics?

  2. When put into that context, I agree it does sound strange and even slightly disturbing. However, I do feel as though the producer of this YouTube clip is pretentiously over exaggerating the meaning of this video. Using a stereotype that leads us into thinking that, Men are constantly trying to lure women into sleeping with them. This ‘mouse and wolf’ theory seems to be deliberately used by the web page “feminist frequency”, which are so very clearly against the idea that men are predators and females are prey. She goes on to say, that the male singer uses ‘manipulative and deceitful’ language’ to get what he wants and pressure her into staying the night with him.

  3. I think most people would not think about songs that much to come to the same conclusion as she did. But that being said, actually going as deep as she did into the meaning he does sound like he is trying to keep her there by force. The persuasive language is used in repetition like he is trying to get into into her head that she is not leaving. The idea of the 'mouse' and 'wolf' is a key idea to some suggestions that linguists have. The 'mouse' is the women who is asking questions and the 'wolf' is the man who is coming across as more authoritive with his deep voice and it ending in the women finally agreeing to stay.
