  1. I like cat lap and Butter upon Bacon
Very good article and very funny to see how they are so modern for the time that they are from the Victorian time period. I think it is fascinating how language can go full circle! Absolutely amazing!

  2. Considering these phrases are from the Victorian era and haven't recently been in use, I was shocked to discover I recognised words such as 'podsnappery'. However, my favourite phrase was 'afternoonified'.

  3. I found this article incredibly interesting as I enjoy looking at language change through the years! A peronal favourite victorian term was 'gigglemug', this is as this word sounds relatively derogatory (mostly because of the inclusion of the word mug) however, this term is the exact opposite and would have been considered as a compliment.

  5. I found the meaning for the word 'bricky' quite interesting as it was used to describe someone without fear. However, nowadays the word 'brick' or 'bricking' is used to describe fear, for example, if someone were to be scared in a certain situation they may say they were 'bricking it'.

  6. I like 'Gigglemug' but I've always found the word 'mug' strange.I didn't expected 'Gigglemug' to be a compliment either. I was surprised that I actually recognised most of the terms.
