The silence around domestic violence where the perpetrators are women and the victims are men is part of the problem with the roles we still confine the different genders in. She should be taught how to deal with her violent impulses and how to speak with understanding and regret about her actions. Whatever the context.

Why do we still stereotype in this day and age? I feel that she should have the same treatment that if a the role was the other way round. Is it fair that a woman can get away with it just because of gender roles seeing women in a different way?
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should deal with domestic violence as a whole and if celebrities are going on about it across the news, it will make it seem right and not a crime that should be punished for. This sort of act should not be all across the news but instead kept quiet and not seen as the norm.

ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting Fox News piece - look at how the prejudice against men is described. What are the implications? See also the same news show discussing female breadwinners to get an idea of the channel's attitude towards women: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kORINpVUEtE
